"Pskov land from the time was flax-growing edge. Countless flax stems in the hands of our great-grandmothers turned into white canvases covered with the mysterious intricacies of the red pattern.
Every hostess was able to weave, and every owner knew how to make her a hand weaving mill. I dedicated my life to the revival of this half-forgotten craft.
For 20 years, I have been learning from the last still living bearers of ancient knowledge in Russian villages, exploring and recreating old weaving tools, sharing experience with Russian and foreign weavers.
I weave and sew folk costumes - shirts, belts, capes, hats, as well as items of author's design: clothes, bags, rugs, panels. Each thing is unique, there are no two completely identical products. I try to use only natural materials - flax, cotton, wool.
I pay special attention to the symbolism of the ornament on my products. After all, the pattern on the clothes of our ancestors had a deep sacred meaning: it was both the “calling card” of a person and a guard against hostile forces.
In my workshop, three times a year, I conduct weekly seminars in which I teach weaving: from the very beginning to complex marriage and mortgage patterns. People come from different parts of our country to learn how to create handmade fabrics. I participate in festivals and fairs, mainly in the North-West of Russia.
It is nice to see that more and more people are thinking about their roots, their native culture, turning to ethnic style in clothes."
